The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has strongly accused the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC). They claim the APC is deliberately trying to destabilise Nigeria’s opposition political parties.
Abdullahi, a prominent chieftain of the ADC, declared the APC to be the biggest threat facing Nigerian democracy today.
He stated that certain individuals are reportedly working with the APC. They are pressuring the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to deregister the ADC. This is based on what he described as ‘funny grounds.’
Abdullahi expressed his concerns, stating, “The APC today represents the greatest threat to Nigerian democracy.” He pointed to recent events as evidence.
“Some people emerged, claiming to challenge this or that,” he noted. “They are asking INEC to deregister ADC on some funny grounds.” He affirmed knowledge of the individuals involved and their allegiances.
“The APC has actively tried to destabilise various opposition parties,” Abdullahi added. He listed the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Labour Party, Social Democratic Party (SDP), and ADC among those targeted.
He issued a stark warning about the future of Nigerian politics. “If we are not careful,” Abdullahi cautioned, “Nigeria is inevitably heading towards a one-party state.” He added: “This will happen if we fail to build an alternative political platform.”
He concluded by asserting, “That is precisely what this government is doing.”
