The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) continues to grapple with internal strife. In a bid to resolve this, the Tanimu Turaki-led National Working Committee (NWC) recently held a crucial meeting. They engaged with state chairmen of the party.
Tony Aziegbemi, the Edo State PDP chairman, led the State Chairmen Forum. He represented the state leadership at the discussions.
At least 29 individuals confirmed their roles. They introduced themselves as state chairmen from across the country.
Strategic Meetings Underway
This meeting marks the first of several strategic sessions. The Turaki-led leadership plans these to solidify his position. He aims to consolidate his emergence as PDP National Chairman following the convention.
During his welcome address, Turaki made a clear appeal. He urged the state chairmen to offer robust ideas. These ideas are crucial for repositioning the party.

Turaki Addresses Rival Faction
Turaki also addressed the rival faction. He downplayed the activities of PDP members loyal to FCT Minister Nyesom Wike and Samuel Anyanwu. This group recently inaugurated a caretaker committee. Its purpose is to manage the party and prepare for a national convention.
The PDP chairman emphasized the need for focus and commitment. He urged the chairmen to prepare for significant work. Turaki affirmed that the party, under his leadership, “means business”.
Following these opening remarks, the meeting transitioned. Participants then moved into a closed-door session.
Factions and Key Supporters
The Wike-backed group is reportedly led by Abdulrahman Mohammed. Conversely, the Turaki faction enjoys prominent support. This includes Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde and Bauchi State Governor Bala Mohammed.
As of now, no court has delivered a ruling. Therefore, the legitimacy of either faction remains undecided.
