The Accord Party in Osun State has officially declared Governor Ademola Adeleke as its sole governorship candidate for the 2026 election. This formal declaration is scheduled for today, Wednesday.
“Governor Ademola Adeleke is our only candidate for the 2026 governorship election. We are declaring him today,” stated a party official. “He formally joined our party in November. We publicly announced his membership on Tuesday.”
Around 150 delegates are expected to participate in the exercise. These delegates are drawn from all 30 local government areas of the state. Each council will send five representatives.
This declaration follows Governor Adeleke’s public announcement yesterday. On Tuesday, he declared his defection to the Accord Party. He also formally stated his intention to seek re-election.
Speaking at the Banquet Hall of the Government House, Osogbo, on Tuesday, Governor Adeleke clarified his move. He said he joined the Accord Party on November 6. This decision came after “weeks of consultation and deliberations.” He engaged with various stakeholders and opinion leaders.
Governor Adeleke addressed party members and supporters. He explained his decision aims to ensure continuous good governance in the state.
The party’s primary election will take place in Osogbo. Governor Adeleke is widely expected to emerge as the standard-bearer. He will represent the party in the August 8, 2026, governorship election.
Governor Adeleke’s Party Switch
Governor Adeleke had previously expressed concerns within his former party, the PDP. He stated, “I love PDP, but things are falling apart everyday.” This sentiment fueled his decision to seek a new political home.
His defection and subsequent endorsement by the Accord Party mark a significant shift in Osun State’s political landscape as the 2026 elections draw closer.
