Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke has officially joined the Accord Party (AP). This move comes just days after his departure from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
His decision to leave the PDP was reportedly due to the ongoing national crisis within the party.
Governor Adeleke announced his defection on Tuesday. The announcement took place at the Government House Banquet Hall. National and state leaders of the Accord Party were present.
Speaking at the event, Governor Adeleke confirmed his membership. “I joined the Accord Party over a month ago,” he stated. “This was precisely on November 6.”
He added that the party would serve as his platform for seeking re-election in 2026. This decision followed weeks of consultations and deliberations. He engaged with various stakeholders and opinion leaders.
“Stakeholders and residents of Osun state understand this important decision,” the governor explained. “We intend to seek a second term under the Accord Party banner.”
He aims to complete his ongoing delivery of good governance and democratic dividends. These efforts have received praise both locally and internationally. “We chose the Accord Party because its mission of welfarism aligns perfectly with our focus on citizens’ and workers’ welfare,” Adeleke noted.
Addressing the party leaders, the governor said, “I welcome our party leaders to the Osun State Government House. You are now part of us, and I am also part of you.”
He emphasized their shared goals. “We are united in progress and good intentions. This is for the benefit of the good people of Osun State and Nigeria at large.”
“At this historical point, our task is to maintain a united front. We must prepare effectively for the upcoming elections,” Adeleke urged. “We have a duty to ensure inclusive leadership. The interests of all groups must be cared for.”
He expressed confidence in his new political home. “Our party, Accord Party, is here to lead Osun governance. It will sustain the delivery of good governance in our dear state.”
“Since joining the party, I have been fascinated by its philosophy. The focus on people’s welfare should always drive public leadership. The primary purpose of any government is the welfare and well-being of its citizens.”
As governor, he highlighted his administration’s priorities. “I have prioritized the welfare of our people. This includes workers and the entire citizenry.”
“Day and night, we implement policies and programmes. These elevate the well-being of our people. From infrastructure to social services, Osun has never seen such good governance and service delivery.”
“Today, we unveil this new platform for Osun State residents,” Adeleke declared. “From Osun West to Osun East to Osun Central, this is our party. It is our new platform for victory next year.”
He called for broad support. “From Igbomina to Ijeshaland, Ifeland to Osogbo, Iwoland to Modakeke, Gbongan to Igbajo, Ikire to Ikirun, Ede and all other lands of Osun State, we must endorse this. It reflects our collective desire for good governance.”
“Osun voted for good governance in 2022. They will support continuity in 2026. The majority of our people desire continuity. Accord is our party for victory next year.”
“In line with the will of our stakeholders, and to deeply respect the wishes of the Osun people, I hereby declare for the Accord Party.”
