Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has revealed defender Gabriel Magalhaes is racing against time to be fit for Sunday’s Premier League encounter against Crystal Palace. The Brazilian center-back suffered an injury during Tuesday’s match against Atletico Madrid and remains sidelined from training.
“Gabi had to leave the pitch with an issue and hasn’t trained since,” Arteta stated during Friday’s press conference. “We’ll monitor his progress over the next 24 hours to determine his availability this weekend.”
Magalhaes’ potential absence creates defensive concerns for Arsenal. The 27-year-old has been instrumental in Arteta’s backline and played a crucial role in last season’s title challenge. His fitness will be vital for the Emirates Stadium clash.
Arteta also provided updates on other injured players. Martin Ødegaard, Kai Havertz, and Noni Madueke continue rehabilitation and won’t feature imminently. “They’re progressing well and doing light activities,” the manager noted. “All are eager to return but won’t be available in the coming week.”
The Gunners prepare for their Premier League return needing defensive solutions. Magalhaes’ possible unavailability adds complexity to Arteta’s selection plans against Patrick Vieira’s Crystal Palace.
