Key leaders and statutory bodies within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) have officially endorsed the newly elected National Working Committee (NWC). This NWC is headed by Kabiru Tanimu Turaki (SAN). This move signals a significant consolidation effort. It follows the party’s 2025 National Convention held in Ibadan.
This display of unity and strength will take place through a series of high-level solidarity meetings. These meetings are scheduled for Abuja in the coming days.
Strategic Engagement Meetings Planned
National Organizing Secretary, Theophilus Dakas Shan, issued a statement. He confirmed the mobilization of various party structures. These include PDP State Chairmen and National Assembly Caucuses. Both the Senate and House of Representatives caucuses are involved. National Ex-Officio members will also participate. Additionally, forums of former governors, ministers, and past NWC officials are joining.
The party has announced a schedule of strategic engagements. These aim to stabilize the PDP. They also seek to chart a new direction for the opposition movement.
Key meetings are set to occur as follows: On Wednesday, the NWC will meet separately with PDP state chairmen. They will also engage members of the House of Representatives. National Ex-Officio members are also scheduled for Wednesday. Then, on December 16, former governors, ministers, and NWC members will meet the new leadership. The Senate Caucus will hold its session with the NWC on December 17.
Shan emphasized the importance of these meetings. He called them crucial steps in the NWC’s consolidation efforts. Their goal is to stabilize the party. They also aim to chart a new direction. This follows the successful 2025 elective National Convention in Ibadan, Oyo State.
Ekiti Governorship Candidate Affirmation
During Wednesday’s engagement, the NWC will also conduct an official presentation. They will hand the Certificate of Return to Dr. Oluwole Oluyede. This formally confirms him as the party’s flag-bearer. He will contest the upcoming Ekiti State governorship election. This election is scheduled for June 20, 2026.
Osun State Governorship Appeal Panel Formed
In a related development, the PDP has formed a high-powered panel. This 24-member Osun State Governorship Appeal Panel will review all appeals. These appeals stem from the state’s recently concluded primary election. This is ahead of the 2026 governorship poll.
New National Chairman, Tanimu Turaki, will chair this panel. Ambassador Taofeek Arapaja will serve as its Secretary.
The panel is set to convene on Thursday, December 11, 2025. The venue is the Bauchi Governors Lodge, Tatari Ali House, Asokoro, Abuja. The party has given clear instructions. The panel must be strictly guided by the PDP Constitution (2025 as amended). It must also adhere to the Electoral Guidelines for Party Primary and the Electoral Act, 2022.
