Austin Okai, a prominent former chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has officially announced his defection. He has now joined the African Democratic Congress (ADC).
Confirming this political shift, Mr. Okai spoke to reporters. He is a well-known socio-political commentator. Okai stated his decision was long overdue. He blamed the ongoing, “protracted leadership crisis” plaguing the PDP. This crisis affects the party nationally and in Kogi State.
“I have resigned my membership of the PDP,” Okai declared. “I am now a member of the ADC.”
Before his departure, Okai served as one of the PDP’s most visible spokespersons. He frequently represented the party on television, in newspapers, and across various social media platforms.
Okai’s defection comes amidst a significant influx of new members into the ADC. This follows the formal unveiling of the party’s structure. The event took place in the Kogi West Senatorial District over the weekend.
The unveiling event attracted many political observers and loyalists. It featured former Senator Dino Melaye as a key speaker. Melaye, once a PDP stalwart, described the ADC as “the only viable alternative.” He believes it offers true change for Nigerians.
During the ADC unveiling, Senator Melaye strongly criticized the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC). He accused the APC of leading Nigeria into severe economic hardship.
“There is massive hunger and starvation across Nigeria,” Melaye stated. He added, “The APC has failed the people. They are out of touch with the everyday realities of Nigerians.”
Melaye urged disillusioned politicians and voters to support the ADC. He asserted that the party would restore dignity, accountability, and purpose to governance.
