The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has confirmed an updated schedule. This is for the pre-tournament friendly match. Nigeria’s Super Eagles will play Egypt’s Pharaohs.
Reason for Reschedule
The friendly was initially planned for an earlier date. However, it was postponed by two days. This change resulted from a recent FIFA decision. The ruling allows clubs to retain players longer. They can keep them until Monday, December 15. After this, players will be released for the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Morocco.
Match Details and New Classification
Beyond the date change, the match also has a new classification. It will now be a practice game. This allows both coaches to use more than five substitutes. The fixture is set for Cairo Stadium. Kick-off is 8 pm local time. In Nigeria, this translates to 7 pm.
Super Eagles’ AFCON Group and Fixtures
Nigeria, three-time AFCON champions, is in Group C. Their group opponents are Tunisia, Uganda, and Tanzania. The Super Eagles begin their campaign on Tuesday, December 23. They will face Tanzania at the Complexe Sportif de Fes.
Their second group match is on Saturday, December 27, against Tunisia. Nigeria will then complete their group stage. They play Uganda on Tuesday, December 30.
Pharaohs’ AFCON Draw
Egypt boasts seven AFCON titles, making them the most successful team. They are placed in Group B. This group includes South Africa, Angola, and Zimbabwe. The Pharaohs will play their matches at the Stade d’Agadir. This marks the 35th edition of the competition.
