Wayne Rooney has accused Mohamed Salah of damaging his reputation at Liverpool. The Egyptian forward publicly claimed the club “threw him under the bus.” This statement has drawn strong criticism.
Salah’s comments followed Liverpool’s dramatic 3-3 draw with Leeds United. He was benched for the match, again. The star player stated his relationship with head coach Arne Slot had deteriorated. This has raised questions about his future at Anfield.
Rooney’s Strong Stance
Speaking on his podcast, Rooney urged Arne Slot to assert his authority. He suggested removing Salah from upcoming matches. These include Tuesday’s Champions League trip to Inter Milan and the home game against Brighton.
“Arne Slot must show leadership,” Rooney stated. “He needs to pull Salah in. Tell him his comments are unacceptable. He shouldn’t travel with the team.” Rooney added, “If I were him, there would be no way he would be in the team.”

Rooney continued, suggesting Salah has a critical choice. He must resolve issues with Slot. Otherwise, he should prepare to leave Liverpool. Salah has become a modern icon for the club.
“This situation needs quick resolution,” Rooney added firmly.
Salah’s Current Predicament and Transfer Buzz
Salah signed a two-year extension in April. However, he has had a difficult start to the season. He has only five goals in nineteen games. He has also been left out of the starting line-up for three consecutive matches. This situation has fueled his frustration.
His recent remarks have already attracted international interest. Reports from England indicate Saudi Pro League club Al Hilal is preparing a January bid. They believe they can secure a cut-price deal for the 33-year-old. Salah has scored 250 goals in 420 appearances for Liverpool. This makes him one of the club’s most prolific players.
Al Hilal, now coached by Simone Inzaghi, might face competition. Other European clubs are reportedly interested. GiveMeSport also suggests MLS side San Diego is exploring an offer. They are preparing for their league entry.
According to BBC Sport, Liverpool remains open-minded about Salah’s future. This is ahead of the January transfer window. The forward is also reportedly open to a new challenge.
