Nasarawa State Governor, Abdullahi Sule, has slammed critics. He says they undermine political leaders’ efforts against insecurity in Nigeria.
Governor Sule spoke on Channels Television’s “Sunday Politics” programme. He said critics are mischievous. These critics claim leaders do not care. They also say leaders are not doing enough to end insecurity.
He expressed these sentiments while reacting to a recent meeting of Northern governors and monarchs in Kaduna. The gathering aimed to address critical security issues across the region.
Governor Sule highlighted the evolving nature of insecurity. He expressed optimism, stating, “This also shall come to pass.” He noted how Boko Haram’s activities were once prevalent in the North East. Insurgents often kidnapped children there. They used them as human shields. These security challenges have since shifted. They now impact the North West and North Central regions.
He shared insights into the daily challenges faced by leaders. “Sometimes, I get calls in the morning from security agencies,” he explained. These calls might confirm a peaceful day prior. Or, they might report an incident overnight. He noted the constant efforts: “We are doing this, and we got them released,” he stated. This referred to rescue operations for kidnap victims.
These daily experiences, Governor Sule asserted, highlight leaders’ commitment. “Those are the kinds of things you go through every day as a leader,” he stressed. He firmly stated that such claims are mischievous. He specifically targeted those alleging leaders neither care nor do enough. Governor Sule affirmed that both Northern leaders and the Federal Government are “doing their best.” He added that there is a collective commitment to “even do more than what we have been doing.”
