Bolaji Abdullahi, spokesman for the African Democratic Congress (ADC), has criticized Edo State Governor Monday Okpebholo. This follows Okpebholo’s recent comments regarding northern kidnappings.
Governor Okpebholo reportedly linked current insecurity issues to events from 2015. He drew parallels with incidents during former President Goodluck Jonathan’s tenure. Okpebholo also suggested that the federal government understood these ‘tricks.’ He implied these actions were connected to the upcoming 2027 election.
Abdullahi reacted to these statements on Sunday via his social media handle. He described Okpebholo’s comments as both careless and deeply disturbing.
The ADC chieftain highlighted a stark contrast. He noted that the All Progressives Congress (APC) government is busy with “fancy conspiracy theories.” Meanwhile, families are still in distress. They are waiting and begging for their children’s release.
Abdullahi quoted Governor Okpebholo directly. He stated, “Governor Monday Okpebholo’s comments are not just careless, they are disturbing.”
“Families are still crying,” Abdullahi emphasized. “They are still waiting, still begging for their children to come home.”
He added, “Instead of providing answers, this APC government is preoccupied with spinning fancy conspiracy theories.”
“This situation presents a real shame and a significant problem,” he stated. Abdullahi further asserted, “We can now clearly see the kind of thinking prevalent within the APC.”
He warned that a serious problem arises. This happens “when government replaces hard evidence and real intelligence with baseless accusations and conspiracy theories.”
Abdullahi also raised a pointed question. He asked, “Does this Governor realise that the person that led the weaponisation of insecurity to discredit GEJ is the same man that is in power today?”
He concluded by questioning, “How can a self-respecting public figure talk like this?”
