The Plateau State Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Rufus Bature, has clarified the party’s position. He stated that Governor Caleb Mutfwang must follow due process. This is required before his potential defection to the APC.
Speaking with Daily Trust, Bature confirmed Governor Mutfwang’s non-admission into the party. He explained that Mutfwang, like any other potential defector, must adhere to the correct channels.
The Chairman stressed that clear intentions are crucial. This must be established before any decision regarding his entry.
Bature outlined the necessary steps. “The governor should follow the proper channel,” he advised. “He must first consult with party leaders. We have national leaders he needs to meet.”
“Negotiations are essential,” Bature added. “There must be a give-and-take. This is necessary for his acceptance. We simply ask him to join in a proper manner.”
He further explained that politics thrives on dialogue and negotiations. “If the terms are favourable, the party will accept him,” Bature stated. “However, issues arise if his intentions for joining are unclear. This lack of clarity often leads to varied opinions. Some groups speak for his defection, while others oppose it.”
