The Young Progressives Party (YPP) has announced the expulsion of one of its members. Hon. Uzokwe Peter, a sitting member of the House of Representatives, has been removed from the party. This decision followed serious allegations of anti-party activities and gross misconduct.
The party formalized this expulsion in a communiqué. It was issued after the 24th Extra-Ordinary National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting. The critical meeting convened in Abuja on December 4, 2025.
The NEC serves as the YPP’s highest decision-making body. It fully endorsed the expulsion. The National Working Committee (NWC) had initially made this decision.
Reasons for Uzokwe Peter’s Expulsion
Hon. Uzokwe Peter represents the Nnewi North, Nnewi South, and Ekwusigo Federal Constituency.
His expulsion stemmed from multiple petitions. Verified video evidence also showed instances of anti-party activities. These actions were unequivocally deemed gross misconduct. They constituted the primary reasons for his removal from the party.
The YPP emphasized that these actions violated its constitution. Specifically, they breached Section 36(7), Article (b, f & o), found on pages 70 and 71. The party further reiterated its “zero-tolerance policy” for any acts that undermine unity, discipline, and cohesion within its ranks.
Other Key Decisions from the NEC Meeting
In addition to the expulsion, the NEC made other significant decisions during the meeting. It approved the election of several national officers. These new officers will fill existing vacancies within the party structure.
This move aligns with the provisions of Section 82(1), (2), and (3) of the Electoral Act, 2022. Furthermore, the NEC passed a unanimous vote of confidence. This vote was unequivocally in support of the National Chairman, Bishop Amakiri.
