The Young Progressives Party (YPP) has expelled one of its members. Hon. Uzokwe Peter, a House of Representatives member, was expelled. The party cited allegations of anti-party activities and gross misconduct.
This decision was formalized on December 4, 2025. It followed the party’s 24th Extra-Ordinary National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting in Abuja. The NEC is the YPP’s highest decision-making body. It fully endorsed the expulsion. The National Working Committee (NWC) had initially made this decision.
Hon. Uzokwe Peter represents the Nnewi North, Nnewi South, and Ekwusigo Federal Constituency.
The party cited several reasons for his expulsion. These included multiple petitions and verified video evidence. Such evidence pointed to anti-party activities. These acts constitute gross misconduct. The YPP stated that these actions violated its constitution. Specifically, they breached Section 36(7), Article (b, f & o) on pages 70 and 71.
The YPP reaffirmed its strong stance. It has a “zero-tolerance policy” for actions that undermine unity, discipline, and cohesion within its ranks.
During the same meeting, the NEC addressed other party matters. It approved the election of new national officers. These appointments fill existing vacancies. This complies with Section 82(1), (2), and (3) of the Electoral Act, 2022. Furthermore, the NEC passed a unanimous vote of confidence in the National Chairman, Bishop Amakiri.
