The Young Progressives Party (YPP) has expelled one of its members in the House of Representatives, Hon. Uzokwe Peter. The expulsion follows serious allegations of anti-party activities and gross misconduct.
This significant decision was formally announced in a communiqué. It was issued after the party’s 24th Extra-Ordinary National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting. The meeting took place in Abuja on December 4, 2025.
The NEC serves as the party’s highest decision-making body. It fully endorsed the expulsion, which was initially made by the National Working Committee (NWC).
Why Uzokwe Peter Was Expelled
Hon. Uzokwe Peter represents the Nnewi North, Nnewi South, and Ekwusigo Federal Constituency. The party cited multiple petitions and verified video evidence as reasons for his expulsion. These materials reportedly showed his involvement in anti-party activities, constituting gross misconduct.
The YPP stated that these actions violated specific sections of its constitution. Specifically, they breached Section 36(7), Article (b, f & o), found on pages 70 and 71 of the party’s guiding document.
The party reaffirmed its commitment to discipline. It emphasized a “zero-tolerance policy for acts that undermine unity, discipline, and cohesion” within its ranks.
Other Key Decisions from the NEC Meeting
Beyond the expulsion, the NEC meeting addressed other crucial party matters. It approved the election of several new national officers. These appointments aim to fill existing vacancies within the party structure. They also comply with Section 82(1), (2), and (3) of the Electoral Act, 2022.
Furthermore, the NEC passed a unanimous vote of confidence in the National Chairman, Bishop Amakiri. This vote signals strong support for his leadership.
