Iyiola Omisore, a former Deputy Governor of Osun State, has voiced strong objections to his recent disqualification. He was removed from the race for the All Progressives Congress (APC) ticket for the Osun governorship election. Omisore firmly believes this decision was made to achieve a predetermined outcome.
He issued a stern warning to the APC. Omisore stated that if this alleged injustice remains unaddressed, it could lead to dangerous consequences. These, he said, would significantly impact the party’s future in Osun State.
The former APC National Secretary also dismissed the reasons provided by the screening committee for his disqualification. He described them as “completely untrue,” “malicious,” and “embarrassing.”
Omisore’s Appeal and Warnings
Omisore highlighted that he is yet to receive any formal notification regarding his purported disqualification. Despite this, he appeared before the Osun State Screening Appeal Committee. He urged them to remedy what he termed an injustice from the screening committee.
In a statement, Omisore detailed his appearance:
“Today, I appeared before the Osun State Screening Appeal Committee. This was despite not having received any formal notification personally addressed to me. Neither the Screening Committee nor the All Progressives Congress provided it.”
He further challenged the circulating reasons for his disqualification. These alleged his failure to be nominated by financial party members. Omisore refuted these claims, stating:
“The reason circulating on social media is completely untrue, malicious, embarrassing. It was clearly crafted to justify a predetermined outcome.”
Addressing the press alongside six other aspirants who were also reportedly disqualified, Omisore reiterated his concerns. They collectively warned against imposing a “lackey” as the party’s candidate. Such an action, he stressed, “poses a grave risk to our chances in the 2026 election.”
He emphasized the urgency of the situation:
“If this injustice is not urgently corrected, it may spell serious consequences for our party’s future in the state.”
Before the Appeal Committee, Omisore earnestly appealed for a thorough review of the Screening Committee’s decision. He also requested “an appropriate and just remedy” for the situation.
This is not the first time Omisore has spoken out. Earlier on Saturday, he had criticized his disqualification in Abuja. Speaking with newsmen, he labeled the decision “a huge joke.” He also accused the screening panel of bias and procedural violations.
