Federal Capital Territory Minister Nyesom Wike has refuted claims that former President Goodluck Jonathan is considering a return to presidential politics in 2027. The minister stated Jonathan hasn’t discussed any such plans with him personally.
“You’re informing me about this,” Wike responded. “Jonathan has never mentioned it to me or called to say, ‘Look, I’m facing pressure to run—what’s your view?’ If he did consult me, I’d share my honest perspective.”
He cautioned against believing unverified media reports, recalling previous false claims about him being flown out of the country.
Wike Distances from PDP Leadership Decisions
The minister also rejected any involvement in Kabiru Tanimu Turaki’s emergence as consensus candidate for PDP National Chairman. “I don’t recognize Turaki as chairman,” Wike stated. “Perhaps he leads a faction, but not the PDP I know.”
Northern PDP stakeholders recently endorsed Turaki ahead of the party’s national convention scheduled for November 15-16 in Ibadan.
Minister Questions Convention Legitimacy
Wike dismissed the forthcoming PDP convention as unlawful, indicating he won’t participate. “How can I attend a convention that legally doesn’t exist?” he questioned.
