The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has condemned a recent political development. Several members of the Rivers State House of Assembly defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
In a statement released on Saturday, the party accused the defecting lawmakers. It described them as “political puppets.” They are merely “doing the bidding of their paymaster,” the PDP alleged.
Among the defecting lawmakers was the Speaker of the House, Martin Amaewhule.

Ini Ememobong, the PDP National Publicity Secretary, issued a strong statement. He vehemently criticized the defectors. Ememobong labeled them “clogs in the wheels of democratic progress.” He further called them “enemies of democracy.”
Ememobong vowed that the PDP would pursue legal action. This move aims to recover the party’s mandate. The action will be directed against the defecting lawmakers.
The party’s statement highlighted the lawmakers’ repeated actions. It noted reports of their “redefection” from the PDP. This marks the second time they announced their departure. They had previously defected and then reversed their decision. The PDP asserted that these individuals are widely known. They are seen as “doing the bidding of their paymaster and demigod.”
Since assuming office, these Rivers State House of Assembly members have shown their true colors. Their actions confirm they are “political puppets.” The PDP also described them as “a clog in the wheels of democratic progress.” They will be remembered in history. The party sees them as “enemies of democracy.” They have also “made a mockery of the legislature.”
Therefore, the PDP characterized their move uniquely. It described their action as a “defection from APC to APC.”
Consequently, the PDP announced it will take legal action. The party aims to activate specific constitutional provisions. This refers to the 1999 Constitution, as amended. The goal is to recover the mandate. This mandate was gained under the PDP banner. The defectors have “ignobly and surreptitiously” switched platforms.
The statement concluded with an appeal. It urged all PDP members in Rivers State to remain faithful and resolute. Efforts are currently underway to rebuild the party. This rebuilding focuses on inclusiveness, fairness, and equity.
