The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ondo State, through a prominent faction, has downplayed the potential threat of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) ahead of the 2027 general elections. The group expressed confidence in the ruling party’s continued dominance.
This comes amidst growing speculation that former Vice President Atiku Abubakar might emerge as the ADC’s presidential candidate for the 2027 polls. Such talks have fueled discussions about a possible opposition realignment.
Adesuyi Adojutelegan, the Director-General of the Ondo APC faction, stated firmly on Thursday that the ADC poses “no threat” to President Bola Tinubu’s aspiration for a second term.
ADC No Match for APC, Says Faction
“The ADC simply cannot dislodge the APC,” Adojutelegan asserted. “We are aware that former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has aligned with them. However, we remain unconcerned. Even if he becomes their presidential candidate, President Tinubu will still secure victory.”
Adojutelegan had earlier inaugurated ward and local government coordinators for the group in Okitipupa. He subsequently called on all APC members to intensify mobilization efforts across Ondo South senatorial district in preparation for the 2027 elections.
He further claimed, “Honestly, President Tinubu faces no significant opposition for the upcoming 2027 elections. His performance in office speaks volumes.”
Tinubu’s Achievements Highlighted
Adojutelegan highlighted President Tinubu’s noticeable efforts in tackling insecurity across the nation. “He is actively addressing our security challenges, a fact visible to all,” Adojutelegan noted. “I am confident he will make Nigeria safer for everyone, ensuring a life free from fear or intimidation.”
He described the ADC as “a party of aggrieved politicians seeking to undermine President Tinubu’s achievements.” Adojutelegan firmly stated that the President remains Nigeria’s best choice. He pointed to Tinubu’s “numerous achievements” in two years, specifically mentioning nationwide road infrastructure.
The group’s leader also praised Tinubu’s economic policies and the student loan program. He said these initiatives “enhance educational access for underprivileged students.”
Call for Aggressive Mobilization
Adojutelegan also extended commendation to the Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo. He praised Tunji-Ojo for his “invaluable support” to the APC structure within the state.
Finally, he urged the newly inaugurated coordinators to aggressively disseminate President Tinubu’s message throughout their respective communities. “I encourage you all to engage in aggressive campaigning across all wards,” he concluded. “This effort should cover the six local government areas of the southern senatorial district.”
