Two lawmakers in the Zamfara State House of Assembly have officially resigned from the All Progressives Congress (APC). Hon. Shamsudeen Hassan Basko and Hon. Nura Dahiru announced their departure on December 3.
They cited persistent internal wrangling and leadership challenges within the party. These issues, they explained, were key reasons for their decision.
Basko Details Reasons for Exit
Hon. Basko represents the Talata-Mafara North Constituency. In his resignation letter, he highlighted several factors behind his move. He pointed to ongoing internal crises and poor leadership. He also noted the marginalization of members.
These issues, he stated, affected party members at both state and local government levels. Basko further explained that his continued membership no longer served his political beliefs. More importantly, he said, it did not align with the best interests of his constituents.
Dahiru Joins PDP After Resignation
Hon. Nura Dahiru, representing Birnin-Magaji Constituency, also provided his reasons for leaving the APC. He stated his exit was essential to pursue ideals. These ideals, he said, would better reflect the aspirations of the people he serves.
Following his resignation, Dahiru formally declared his defection. He has now joined the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Zamfara State.
