Tajudeen Yusuf, a former member of the House of Representatives, has attributed Nigeria’s escalating insecurity to political manipulation. He shared these views during a recent appearance on Channels Television.
Yusuf specifically accused the North of complicity. He stated that the region significantly contributed to emboldening bandits. He further claimed northern political actors used banditry to destabilize former President Goodluck Jonathan’s administration. This alleged strategy aimed to remove Jonathan from power in 2014.
The former lawmaker emphasized a solution. He believes Nigeria can only overcome its security challenges by ensuring strict adherence to the rule of law. No individual, he stressed, should be considered above the law.
Yusuf elaborated on the origins of the current crisis. He stated that Nigeria’s insecurity grew because it was “deliberately played politics with” from its inception. He observed that people prioritized “who’s in power” over genuine solutions.
The former lawmaker maintained that the North showed complicity. He argued they significantly contributed to empowering criminal elements. This was done, he claimed, to exploit the situation. Their goal, according to Yusuf, was “to throw out Jonathan in 2014.” He concluded that this political maneuvering has led to the nation’s current predicament.
To resolve this, Yusuf stressed the importance of sincerity and universal accountability. He firmly believes that “no Nigerian, regardless of his position, will be above the law.” Crossing the line, he added, must lead to consequences. He called for the necessary political backing to ensure justice and correctness.
