Bode George is a former Deputy National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). He reacted to Governor Ademola Adeleke’s recent exit from the party. George called it a ‘desperate move for survival’.
George spoke to reporters in Lagos on Tuesday. His remarks were part of a statement. It was titled ‘State of the Nation, Dear Mr President Our Nation is wobbling politically’.
Adeleke’s Exit: A Desperate Move
He acknowledged the party’s internal crisis. This crisis might have pushed Adeleke to leave quickly. Yet, George maintained it was still a desperate move for survival.
George stated that uncertainty plagued the party’s leadership. No clear faction was in charge. This confusion likely forced Adeleke’s desperate decision.
However, George affirmed that members are free to leave the PDP. He believes the party will only grow stronger. ‘Unhealthy branches’ will fall away, making it more robust.
“As a life member of the PDP Board of Trustees (BOT), I maintain without ambiguity: anyone wishing to leave the party is free to do so,” George declared. He added, “A political party, like a tree, grows stronger when unhealthy branches fall away.”
Accusations Against APC and Minister Wike
George also accused the All Progressives Congress (APC) led Federal Government. He claims they are trying to destroy the PDP. He believes this undermines Nigeria’s democracy.
George urged President Bola Tinubu to intervene. He asked him to immediately caution the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister, Nyesom Wike. Wike should stop interfering in the PDP’s internal affairs, George insisted.
He claimed the APC government focuses heavily on 2027 elections. This focus comes at the expense of national security, he noted. It also compromises institutional integrity.
He criticized the government’s slow response to nationwide insecurity. This includes abductions and killings across several states. George finds this unacceptable.
He stated, “Instead of responding with urgency, the APC-led Federal Government appears preoccupied with political positioning ahead of 2027, even if it means weakening institutions and suffocating the opposition.”
The PDP National Secretariat Incident
George highlighted a recent disruption. It occurred at the PDP National Secretariat on November 18, 2025. He called it a “grave warning” of a wider anti-democratic pattern.
He directly implicated the FCT Minister in the chaos. George alleged that a serving Federal Minister encouraged the forceful entry. He referred to the Wike-aligned faction. This group recently faced expulsion from the party.
George stated: “The actions of a group previously expelled for anti-party activities, reportedly encouraged by a serving Federal Minister, constitute an unacceptable assault on democratic order… The forced entry into the PDP National Secretariat crossed every line of decency and legality.”
George also questioned police actions during the fracas. Police deployed tear gas to disperse clashing factions. He found this concerning.
“Who authorised the police to take over the headquarters? Under what authority? Since when does a tenant overtake a landlord?” he questioned.
He concluded that the APC-led government is using the situation. Their aim is to destroy the PDP. He described the PDP as the “only true national party in Nigeria.” George believes they offer police protection to “renegades” within the party.
Appeal to President Tinubu and Warning to Wike
George issued a direct appeal to the President. He also gave a strong warning to Minister Wike.
He urged President Tinubu: “It is, therefore, imperative that you call your minister to order and insist that he respects the laws of the land.”
Addressing Minister Nyesom Wike directly, George stated: “To Minister Nyesom Wike, I speak as an elder: you have been a major beneficiary of the PDP, Chairman of a Local Government, Chief of Staff, Minister, and Governor. The party nurtured your political rise.”
He continued, “It is therefore painful to watch you take actions that could damage the very institution that supported you. Power is temporary; reputation is permanent. Do not allow yourself to be used as an instrument to destabilise the Republic.”
George concluded with a historical reminder: “History is replete with lessons. When institutions are weakened, chaos follows. This is not the path Nigeria deserves.”
