Super Eagles goalkeeper Maduka Okoye has marked his return to professional football with Udinese after serving a two-month suspension connected to an alleged betting scandal. The 26-year-old Nigerian international made his season debut in Udinese’s 1-1 draw against Cremonese on Monday night.
Emotional Comeback for Okoye
Following his first appearance since the suspension, Okoye took to Instagram to express his emotions. The goalkeeper, who previously lost his Super Eagles position due to form issues and the scandal, shared a heartfelt message about returning to the pitch.
“Happy to be back, back to doing what I love most,” Okoye wrote. “Back to fighting alongside my teammates, back to fighting in front of our fans, back to doing what I’ve done since childhood.”
He continued: “Back to following the path my father fought for, back to having fun, back to chasing dreams, back to doing what I’d die for.”
Boost for Club and Country
Okoye’s return provides crucial reinforcement for Udinese as they seek stability in Serie A after an inconsistent season start. His comeback also revives prospects for a Super Eagles recall ahead of Nigeria’s 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers against Gabon.
