Kabiru Turaki, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) National Chairman, insists Governor Ademola Adeleke has not left the party.
Turaki addressed journalists in Abuja. This happened after the party’s National Working Committee (NWC) meeting. He spoke about trending reports of Adeleke’s resignation. Turaki stated the PDP has not received any official communication from the Osun State Governor.
He added that Adeleke is among aspirants seeking the PDP ticket for the Osun 2026 governorship election.
Turaki also confirmed the NWC reviewed and approved the Osun State congresses. These congresses were held to select ad-hoc delegates.
“Primaries are currently underway,” Turaki stated. “Governor Adeleke is indeed one of the aspirants vying for the ticket.”
He further emphasized the party’s core philosophy. “Our power and strength lie with the people,” he explained. “It is not in our National Assembly members or governors. That is why the PDP truly is the People’s Party.”
Turaki also addressed ambassadorial nominations for former governors. Okezie Ikpeazu and Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi were recently nominated by President Bola Tinubu. Turaki confirmed the party has received no official communication on these appointments.
“If they approach us, we will consider it on its merit,” he stated. “However, we have received no communication yet.”
Shifting focus, Turaki criticized the security situation in Nigeria. He stated citizens are unsafe under the All Progressives Congress (APC)-led federal government. He then called for a complete reform of the nation’s security architecture.
“Nigerians are not safe anywhere,” he declared. “They live in perpetual fear on streets, at work, on farms, in markets, or at home. This situation must change.”
