Kabiru Turaki, the National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has affirmed that Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, remains a member of the party.
Speaking to journalists in Abuja after a National Working Committee (NWC) meeting, Turaki addressed recent speculation. He clarified that the PDP has not received any formal communication regarding Governor Adeleke’s alleged resignation.
He further stated that Adeleke is actively vying for the PDP ticket. This is for the Osun 2026 governorship election.
Turaki also confirmed a key development. The NWC has reviewed and approved the Osun State congresses. These congresses were held to select ad-hoc delegates.
He emphasized, “As I speak, primaries are currently underway. Governor Adeleke is among the aspirants seeking our party’s ticket.”
Turaki added, “Our true power and strength lie with the people. It is not derived from National Assembly members or even our governors. This commitment defines the PDP as truly the ‘People’s Party.'”
Regarding the recent ambassadorial nominations, Turaki also commented. President Bola Tinubu nominated former Governors Okezie Ikpeazu and Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi. However, the PDP has received no official communication about these appointments.
He stated, “If they approach us, we will assess it based on its merits. But at present, we have no communication on this matter.”
Turaki also voiced strong concerns about national security. He insisted that Nigerians are unsafe under the APC-led federal government. He then called for a complete restructuring of the country’s security architecture.
He lamented, “Nigerians lack safety everywhere. This includes streets, workplaces, farms, markets, and even their homes. Every citizen lives in constant fear. This situation demands immediate change.”
