Governor Adeleke’s PDP Membership Confirmed
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) National Chairman, Kabiru Turaki, has affirmed Governor Ademola Adeleke remains a party member. He insisted that the Osun State Governor has not left the PDP.
Turaki addressed reporters in Abuja. This followed the party’s National Working Committee (NWC) meeting. He clarified that trending reports about Governor Adeleke’s resignation are false. The PDP has not received any official communication from the Osun State Governor regarding such a move.
Furthermore, Turaki confirmed Governor Adeleke is among the aspirants. He is seeking the PDP ticket for the Osun 2026 governorship election. The NWC also reviewed and approved the recent congresses in Osun State. These congresses selected ad-hoc delegates.
Turaki stated, “As I speak to you now, primaries are ongoing. Governor Adeleke’s name is one of the aspirants vying for the ticket.” He then spoke about the party’s core strength. “Our power and strength are not in our National Assembly members or governors,” Turaki explained. “It is in the people. That is why the PDP is the People’s Party.”
PDP Comments on Ambassadorial Nominations and National Security
Turaki also commented on other national issues. He addressed the recent ambassadorial nominations by President Bola Tinubu. Former Governors Okezie Ikpeazu and Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi were nominated. Turaki stated the PDP has received no official communication regarding these appointments.
“If they approach us, we will consider it on its merit,” he noted. “However, we have not received any communication yet.”
Finally, Turaki criticized the All Progressives Congress (APC)-led federal government. He insisted that Nigerians are currently not safe under their leadership. He called for a total overhaul of the nation’s security architecture.
“Nigerians are not safe anywhere,” Turaki lamented. “This includes on the streets, in workplaces, on farms, in markets, or in their homes. Every citizen lives and walks in perpetual fear. This situation must change.”
