The National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Kabiru Turaki, has affirmed that Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, remains a bona fide member of the party.
Turaki addressed journalists in Abuja following a National Working Committee (NWC) meeting. He stated that despite widespread reports of Governor Adeleke’s resignation from the PDP, the party has not received any official communication from the Osun State Governor.
He further clarified that Governor Adeleke is among the aspirants vying for the PDP ticket in the upcoming Osun 2026 governorship election.
The National Chairman also confirmed that the NWC had reviewed and approved the congresses conducted in Osun State. These congresses were held to select ad-hoc delegates for the party primaries.
“As I speak to you now, primaries are ongoing,” Turaki noted. “Governor Adeleke’s name is one of the aspirants vying for the ticket.”
He emphasized the party’s core philosophy, stating, “Our power, our strength, is not in who are members of the National Assembly or who are the governors of our party. It is in the people, and that is why the PDP is the People’s Party.”
On Ambassadorial Nominations and National Security
Commenting on other recent developments, Turaki addressed the nomination of former governors Okezie Ikpeazu and Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi for ambassadorial appointments. President Bola Tinubu made these nominations. Turaki stated that the PDP had not received any official communication regarding this matter.
“If they come to us, we will certainly consider it on its merit. But for now, we have not received any communication,” he explained.
Furthermore, Turaki expressed strong concerns about the nation’s security situation. He insisted that Nigerians are currently unsafe under the All Progressives Congress (APC)-controlled federal government. He called for a comprehensive overhaul of the country’s security architecture.
“Nigerians are not safe on the streets, in their workplaces, on the farms, in the markets or in their homes,” Turaki lamented. “Every citizen lives and walks in perpetual fear. That must change.”
