The Kaduna State chapter of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) has taken a firm stance by expelling nine of its top officials, including the Deputy State Chairman, Ahmed Mustapha, due to accusations of gross misconduct and attempts to undermine leadership.
The decision came after an emergency meeting of the State Executive Committee (SEC) in Kaduna on Wednesday. Party insiders described the move as necessary to restore discipline and order within the party.
Those affected include the State Publicity Secretary, Idris Musa; State Vice Chairman (Zone 1), Sulaiman Abdullahi; State Treasurer, Gambo Sani; State Financial Secretary, Magaji Maiwada; State Legal Adviser, Danlami Dabai Musa; State Coordinator of Persons with Disabilities, Saura Muhammed; State Deputy Youth Leader, Ibrahim Muhammed; and Mansur Gaga.
According to the SEC, the expelled members were involved in activities that threatened the unity and lawful operation of the ADC in Kaduna and the broader North-West region. They were accused of holding secret meetings to plot leadership changes, forging official documents, and extorting money from party members.
Addressing journalists after the meeting, Kaduna State ADC Chairman, Elder Patrick Ambut, stated that the party could no longer tolerate actions that threaten its cohesion. He emphasized that all members must adhere to the party’s constitution.
Ambut accused Mustapha of abuse of office, impersonation, and actions capable of creating disharmony across the North-West. He stated, “These actions constitute a gross violation of the ADC constitution and are contrary to established party procedures.”
In the wake of the expulsions, the party announced the appointment of Alex Tagwai, the Deputy State Publicity Secretary, as Acting Publicity Secretary. Ambut explained that the decision was unanimously endorsed by the SEC, local government chairmen, and stakeholders.
Ambut said, “Mr. Tagwai will immediately assume responsibilities to ensure the smooth functioning of the publicity unit and prevent any communication gaps.”
The chairman urged members to remain calm and loyal to the constituted leadership, stressing that further acts of insubordination would not be tolerated.
