Super Eagles midfielder Alex Iwobi is highly confident about Nigeria’s chances. He believes the team is poised for a triumphant campaign at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations. This major tournament will take place in Morocco, running from December 21 to January 18.
Iwobi played a key role in Nigeria’s journey to the AFCON final earlier this year. Despite losing 2-1 to Ivory Coast, he feels the squad has returned stronger. They are more determined than ever to secure the coveted trophy.
Speaking to AySuga Channel, the Fulham midfielder shared his thoughts. “We were really close last AFCON,” Iwobi stated. “The only way we can improve is to win it.”
He added, “We have the players to do it. We believe we can. We just have to prove it.” Iwobi’s strong confidence reflects the growing optimism around the Super Eagles. Many predict they will be strong contenders once the tournament begins in Morocco.
Akor Laments Sevilla Derby Defeat
Meanwhile, in Spain, Sevilla forward Jerome Adams Akor has voiced his deep frustration. This followed their painful 2-0 home defeat to rivals Real Betis. The Seville derby took place on Sunday.
This result has deepened Sevilla’s recent struggles. It marked their fourth loss in their last five league outings. Despite long periods of dominance under manager Mattias Almeyda, the hosts were undone. Wasteful finishing proved to be their major problem, an issue that has affected them throughout the season.
Akor did not hide his feelings after the match. He described the defeat as “a hard one to take.”
“We can’t lose like this,” he told the club’s official website. “It’s not just a defeat; it’s a slap in the face at home.”
Akor acknowledged Sevilla had control and created chances. However, he conceded, “They took theirs, and there are no excuses. We have to work hard and keep going.”
