Enzo Maresca expressed immense satisfaction with Chelsea’s composure. This was during their recent 1-1 draw against Arsenal. He believes this hard-fought match clearly demonstrates significant team progress under his guidance.
Speaking to BBC Match of the Day, Maresca’s delight was evident.
“The performance was fantastic,” he stated. “Even with 11 players, we were a much superior side. Playing with ten men is always difficult, but the team handled it outstandingly well.”
He reiterated, “At 11 versus 11, we were the better team.” Maresca added, “We aimed to find the best solutions and exploit available spaces. We specifically identified openings for Malo and Estevao on their flank.”
“Tonight, we can certainly be happy, even though we didn’t secure the win,” he concluded.
Despite Arsenal leveling the score, Maresca maintained his focus on the broader perspective. He emphasised that Chelsea’s development is now tangible, visible in demanding fixtures such as this one.
“We are performing better than last season, and we are closing the gap,” he affirmed post-match. “We will evaluate our position around February or March. Only then will we properly assess our targets for the season.”
“This match proved we are moving in the correct direction,” Maresca noted. “I consistently say it: the performance was truly fantastic.”
Following Sunday’s outcome, Chelsea now sits third in the Premier League standings. They are six points adrift of first-placed Arsenal after 13 matches played.
