A faction of the Labour Party (LP) has formally submitted a list of 34 members to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC). This list is for its Interim National Working Committee.
The submission was confirmed in an official communique. It was dated November 27, 2025. Senator Nenadi Usman, the Interim National Chairman, and Darlington Nwokocha, the Interim National Secretary, jointly signed it.
The letter went to Professor Joash Amupitan, the INEC Chairman. The commission stamped it “received” on Friday, November 28, 2025.
Basis for the Interim Committee
In a detailed cover letter, the Usman-led leadership explained its actions. It cited the party’s constitution as its basis. A National Executive Council (NEC) resolution from July 18, 2025, also supported the move. This resolution, they stated, empowered the faction to form an interim national leadership for the party.
Usman urged INEC to recognize the submitted names. She declared them the legitimate leadership of the LP. “We are pleased to forward herewith the names and designations of the reconstituted members of the Interim National Leadership,” Usman stated. This aligns with the LP constitution and NEC resolutions of July 18, 2025, she added. These had already been sent to the commission and acknowledged on July 21, 2025.
She further explained that the NEC empowered her faction. It allowed them to “constitute the full body of the interim national leadership.” This is “in accordance with Article 13 of the Labour Party constitution.”
Amidst Leadership Rivalry
This development follows a rival NEC meeting. Julius Abure convened this meeting on Thursday. It reaffirmed him as the National Chairman of the party.
The new list serves as a reminder to INEC. It asserts that its Interim National Leadership “emerged from statutory NEC resolutions of Friday 18th July 2025.” This also aligns with Article 13 of the party’s constitution.
Usman reiterated her call to INEC. She urged the commission to acknowledge the forwarded names. They represent the “legitimate and authentic Interim National Working Committee leadership of the Labour Party.”

The 34-member list includes several prominent figures. Apart from Senator Nenadi Usman and Darlington Nwokocha, these are:
