A faction of the Labour Party (LP) has officially submitted a 34-member list. This list is for its Interim National Working Committee. It was sent to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
An official communique confirmed the submission. It was dated November 27, 2025. Interim National Chairman, Senator Nenadi Usman, and Interim National Secretary, Darlington Nwokocha, jointly signed the document.
The letter was addressed to Professor Joash Amupitan. He is the INEC Chairman. The commission stamped it ‘received’ on Friday, November 28, 2025.
A detailed cover letter accompanied the submission. The Usman-led leadership based its action on the party’s constitution. It also referenced a July 18, 2025, National Executive Council (NEC) resolution. They stated this resolution empowered their faction. It allowed them to form an interim national leadership for the party.
Senator Usman urged INEC to recognize the submitted names. She declared them the legitimate LP leadership. Usman stated, “We are pleased to forward the names and designations.” These are for the reconstituted members of the Interim National Leadership. This aligns with the LP constitution. It also follows the statutory NEC resolutions of July 18, 2025. These resolutions were previously sent to INEC. The commission acknowledged them on July 21, 2025.
She further explained that the NEC empowered her faction. This power was to constitute the full interim national leadership. It is in accordance with Article 13 of the Labour Party constitution.
This move, however, follows a rival NEC meeting. Julius Abure convened it on Thursday. This meeting reaffirmed him as the National Chairman.
The new list reminded INEC of its origins. It stated the Interim National Leadership emerged from ‘statutory NEC resolutions’. These were passed on Friday, July 18, 2025. The list also aligns with Article 13 of the party’s constitution.
Usman again urged INEC. She asked them to officially recognize the forwarded names. These names represent the legitimate and authentic Interim National Working Committee leadership of the Labour Party.
Beyond Usman and Nwokocha, the 34-member list features key officials. These include Mohammed Misau as Deputy National Chairman (TUC). Mrs Nike Oriola is Deputy National Chairman (Female). Prof Theophilus Ndubuaku serves as Deputy National Chairman (NLC).
Additional INWC members include Eragbe Anselem, Sarah Bago, and Hajia Aishat Madije. Also listed are Hamisu San Turaki, Ife Salako, and Chinelo Oforche. Other members are Eric Ifere, Edwin Bafteng, and Gloria George-Omunu. Joseph Ndirang, Aminu Kanya, Prof Austin Akubue, Mrs Martina Umana, and Femi Kehinde complete the list, among others.
The list’s submission came shortly after a rival event. Just 24 hours earlier, another party camp met. This camp is led by National Chairman Julius Abure. They held a fresh NEC meeting in Abuja. INEC officials and Datti Baba-Ahmed attended. He is a former vice-presidential candidate.
