More than 300 young gymnasts are set to compete in the second edition of the Gymfest Gymnastics Championship in Lagos on November 1. Organizers have stated that the event will not only be a competition but also a platform to promote discipline, teamwork, and national unity among young athletes.
The event will bring together sports enthusiasts, coaches, parents, and administrators to discuss how gymnastics can drive youth development and strengthen Nigeria’s sporting culture.
Co-convener of the championship, Sarah Boulos, described Gymfest as a long-term project designed to elevate the standard of gymnastics in Nigeria. She emphasized that the initiative is built around sustainability and youth development, aiming to inspire confidence and raise the next generation of champions.
Boulos also highlighted the importance of parental support in nurturing successful athletes and explained that gymnastics serves as a strong foundation for all sports by developing essential physical, mental, and social skills in children.
Program Director Yoyin Akpose added that Gymfest serves as a meeting point for everyone passionate about the sport, from parents to professional coaches, and is helping to build a community committed to seeing Nigeria excel on the global gymnastics stage.
