Former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar has formally declared his membership with the African Democratic Congress (ADC).
He asserted that the party is well-positioned for significant political advancement. This comes ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Abubakar completed his official registration as a party member on Thursday in Yola, Adamawa. He later shared this update publicly on Friday via a social media post.

The former Vice President posted photographs of the event. They showed him receiving his ADC membership card. He also received a customised Waziri 01 branded jersey. This added symbolism to the brief occasion.
Atiku highlighted the ADC’s expanding national reach. He pointed to the party’s growing grassroots consolidation across various regions. He reaffirmed the ongoing nationwide movement.
“Yesterday, the ADC train made a stopover in Jalingo,” he wrote. “This was for the unveiling of the Taraba State secretariat of the Coalition Party. There’s no stopping the ADC; it is heading your way.”
Dele Momodu Urges Opposition Alliance with Atiku
Earlier on Wednesday, Ovation magazine publisher Dele Momodu made a significant appeal. He urged key opposition figures to form a strategic alliance with Atiku Abubakar. Momodu described this move as a vital “rescue mission” for Nigeria.
Momodu spoke as the keynote speaker at a closing lecture. This event was part of a week-long celebration. It was organised in Jada to mark Abubakar’s birthday. Momodu traced the former Vice-President’s political journey. He highlighted Atiku’s democratic credentials. He also emphasized his disposition to non-violence.
Abubakar’s media office quoted Momodu’s remarks. “During the 1993 SDP primary,” Momodu stated, “Atiku stepped down for my adopted father, MKO Abiola. This allowed him to win the ticket.”
“Atiku is not a common politician,” Momodu added. “He has been betrayed many times. Yet, he always chooses peace and patience.”
Momodu further praised Atiku’s character. “Atiku is not a violent politician. You will never see him parade thugs around him. Little wonder God has given him excellent health. He has also found success in business. Atiku is pursuing his ambition with clarity, without violence.”
The publisher also noted Abubakar’s legal battles over election outcomes. He said these have strengthened Nigeria’s constitutional law direction.
Momodu also issued a warning. He cautioned against discouraging quality leadership during critical national moments. “When we refuse to encourage good people, the worst amongst us thrive,” he concluded.
