Senator Iyiola Omisore has issued a serious warning. He is a former National Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC). The party risks losing the August 2026 Osun governorship election. This could happen if it fails to present a strong candidate.
Omisore delivered this caution on Wednesday. He was speaking during consultation meetings. These took place in Osogbo and Olorunda local government areas.
He urged the APC to consider a specific type of candidate. The candidate for the 2026 gubernatorial race must have previously held an elective office.
The APC chieftain also disclosed personal news. Some party stakeholders have encouraged him to contest the 2026 Osun governorship election.
Stakeholders prevailed upon him. They believe he can challenge the incumbent’s governance. This would happen by joining the race.
Omisore’s Strong Message to APC
Omisore emphasized his point. “We will fail and lose if we do not back a viable aspirant,” he stated. “The party must consider someone with prior elective office experience for the 2026 gubernatorial race.”
He added, “The party ticket should not be left to the whims of one individual. That approach makes victory impossible.” “A state’s governorship must reflect the collective decision of all stakeholders.”
He further warned against patronage. “The governorship seat should not be awarded based on friendship,” he stated. “Do not hire a friend for a job they cannot deliver.” He acknowledged, “All contestants in this race are brothers.”
Omisore appealed to party members. He asked for their support in the primary election. This primary is scheduled for December 13, 2025.
“I urge everyone,” he said. “On December 13, 2025, please come out.” “Show your support by choosing me as the party’s candidate for the 2026 gubernatorial election.”
