Governor Hyacinth Alia of Benue State has strongly denied recent claims. These claims suggested he plans to leave the All Progressives Congress (APC). The reports indicated he would instead join the African Democratic Congress (ADC).
Tersoo Kula, the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, called the claims false. He described the story as a “wicked, mischievous, and vicious smear campaign.”
The Benue State Government clarified Governor Alia’s actions. He routinely visits elder statesmen and national figures. These engagements are without political or religious bias. Such an approach reflects his inclusive leadership style.
According to an official statement, the Governor views visits to respected leaders as normal. This includes figures of Senator Ayu’s standing. These interactions align with his development-focused agenda.
The statement further highlighted Governor Alia’s consistent outreach. He connects with influential stakeholders across Benue. Many of these individuals have since joined the APC.
It also noted that the APC in Benue continues to attract opposition figures. They are joining from various local government areas. Defection events reportedly occur on a regular basis.
“Such engagements have strengthened the party rather than weakened it,” the statement affirmed.
The government insisted on the true political situation in the state. The APC is steadily expanding under Governor Alia. This is not the “fiction being circulated by mischief makers.”
Governor Alia, the statement added, remains committed to strengthening the party. This is a key focus ahead of the 2027 elections. He is open to engaging even his strongest opponents. This forms part of a broader consolidation plan. It benefits both his administration and President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
