Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca attributed his team’s convincing 3-0 victory over Barcelona to their efficient game plan. The Champions League clash at Stamford Bridge on Tuesday night saw Chelsea dominate.
This win followed a disappointing draw against Qarabag. Chelsea, however, delivered one of their most confident performances of the season. Jules Kounde’s first-half own goal opened the scoring. Barcelona’s challenge grew significantly harder when Ronald Araujo was sent off.
Post-match, Maresca revealed a key aspect of their strategy. Limiting Barcelona’s possession was central to their game plan, he explained.
“Barcelona thrives with possession,” Maresca stated. “They become uncomfortable without the ball. Our objective was to control it.” He added, “Even playing 11 against 11, I felt very good about our performance. The team played exceptionally well.”
The Italian coach also lauded Estevao. The young Brazilian continues to gain confidence since joining the club. His impressive display included a vital goal. Maresca also noted Estevao’s maturity shown off the pitch.

“Estevao reminds me of an old-school player,” Maresca told Sky Sports. “He is rarely on his phone. He doesn’t spend much time on social media.” Maresca praised his dedication. “He works incredibly hard. He is a simple, normal kid, and I truly appreciate that. His family is always nearby.” Maresca concluded, “He is a special talent, yet a very normal individual.”
