The Lagos State Chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has declared that opponents of State Police are “enemies of peace.” The party believes its establishment is long overdue.
Speaking through its spokesman, Mogaji Seye Oladejo, the party urged President Bola Tinubu to fast-track the creation of State Police nationwide. This call comes amidst rising insecurity across the country.
Southwest Leads Advocacy for Local Security
Oladejo noted that the Southwest region has consistently championed modern, community-focused security. This approach allows for quick and intelligent responses to emerging threats. He praised the call for State Police as “timely, forthright, and pragmatic.”
According to Oladejo, the governors have shown strong leadership and a shared understanding of Nigeria’s security challenges. He stated, “Their position aligns squarely with the long-standing progressive philosophy of our party: security must be local to be effective.”
Oladejo highlighted President Tinubu’s consistent commitment to reforming Nigeria’s internal security. He added that the governors’ call merely reinforces the President’s established dedication to a responsive, people-centred security system.
State Police: A Timely and Logical Solution
The Lagos APC affirmed that the demand for State Police is logical and unavoidable. Oladejo explained, “The security challenges facing the country require multi-layered policing solutions.”
He further elaborated that a well-designed, professionally regulated, and federally coordinated State Police would bring security closer to communities. It would also improve intelligence gathering and deter crime effectively.
The Southwest, Oladejo noted, continues to set an example. Initiatives like Amotekun and continuous investment in local security infrastructure prove that decentralized security works. He called the push for State Police the “next logical step.”
The Lagos APC reaffirmed its full support for President Tinubu’s “Renewed Hope” security reforms. It also backed the unified stance of Southwest leaders. “The security of our people is non-negotiable,” Oladejo stressed.
Concluding his statement, Oladejo asserted, “The time for State Police is not just ripe, it is overdue.” He urged all stakeholders nationwide to collaborate with President Tinubu to achieve a safer, stronger Nigeria.
