A faction of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) has rejected former Vice President Atiku Abubakar’s recent membership registration. The faction, led by Nafiu Bala Gombe, stated that Atiku must complete his registration with recognized ward executives in his area.
According to the ADC faction, Atiku’s registration in Jada 1 Ward, Jada Local Government Area, was invalid. They claim it was not conducted by officials recognized by the party’s national headquarters.
Christopher O. Okechukwu, the faction’s Director of Media and Public Affairs, issued a statement. He warned that Atiku’s registration violated the ADC’s constitution and established procedures.
The ADC faction noted their repeated advice to Atiku. They urged him to register with the duly constituted ward executives. He has not yet taken this step, they added.
Okechukwu emphasized, “This registration involved individuals not recognized by the ADC National Headquarters. Therefore, they lack the authority to register new members.”
He reiterated, “We have consistently urged Mr. Abubakar to register properly. This requires engagement with authentic party executives in his locality. He has not yet done so.”
The faction appealed to Atiku and his associates for understanding. They stressed that the ADC is not a vehicle for personal ambition. Instead, it is a movement dedicated to democratic renewal.
The ADC national leadership views this action as inconsistent. It conflicts with the party’s constitution and procedures. “We are concerned,” the statement read, “that it may be a strategy. This could be an attempt to leverage the ADC while awaiting reconciliation with the PDP. We have observed this pattern before.”
“We call on Mr. Abubakar to regularize his membership,” the statement concluded. “He should register with the officially recognized party leadership in his local government. Once registered correctly, he will receive all rights and privileges. These are stipulated by the ADC constitution.”
