The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) national leadership has appealed to former Jigawa State Governor, Sule Lamido. They urged him to withdraw his lawsuit. The party seeks his support in stabilising the crisis-ridden opposition.
Lamido recently criticised the party’s handling of its leadership dispute. He spoke during an interview with the BBC Hausa Service. He also referenced a lawsuit he filed concerning the issue.
Umar Sani, a close associate of PDP National Chairman Kabiru Tanimu Turaki (SAN), reacted to Lamido’s comments. Sani stated that many of the former governor’s claims were “inaccurate.” He added they “required clarification.”
Sani insisted no court barred the PDP national convention. This contradicted Lamido’s position.
He explained the court only directed Lamido’s participation in the contest. This was after proper verification. That order, however, was appealed at the Supreme Court.
An Ibadan court later granted explicit permission. This allowed the convention to hold. He clarified that the exercise produced new national officers. Thus, the claim of an illegitimate PDP leadership is incorrect.
Sani urged Lamido to show maturity. He asked him to prioritise party unity. This is crucial given the ongoing internal challenges.
He stated that Sule Lamido is a PDP founding figure. At this critical time, the party needs cohesion. Prolonged litigation is not helpful. Remaining in court battles will hinder their success.
The party leadership also encouraged Lamido to work with Chairman Turaki. Both men shared cordial relations previously. They can still play key roles in restoring party stability.
This plea comes as the PDP battles internal disputes. They also face public criticism. This criticism concerns their handling of recent electoral and administrative issues.
