Senator Orji Uzor Kalu, representing Abia North, has made a significant claim. He alleged that Nigeria’s current insecurity is politically orchestrated. According to Kalu, the goal is to undermine President Bola Tinubu’s administration.
Kalu shared his views on Channels Television on Sunday. He stated that both local and international entities are hiring mercenaries. These mercenaries, he claimed, are fueling the security challenges across the nation.
The Senator pointed to a familiar pattern of attacks. These include kidnappings and forced school closures. Kalu believes these tactics mirror pressure strategies seen during past election periods.
“What we are seeing aligns with election cycles,” he explained. “When elections approach, people often try to pressure the government in power. This leads to various unsettling events.”
Similarities to Jonathan’s Era and 2027 Elections
Kalu drew a parallel to a previous administration. He noted that similar situations occurred under former President Goodluck Jonathan. “They did it to Jonathan,” he remarked, adding, “This situation points towards 2027.”
He further elaborated on the involvement of political actors. “These bandits are partly mercenaries,” Kalu asserted. “They are bought by politicians. These individuals are focused on destabilizing a president ready to improve our economy.”
The Senator suggested that intelligence agencies are aware of these developments. “The intelligence community knows,” he stated. “I am aware that people are sponsoring these activities to destabilize the government.”
He also highlighted the role of external actors. “Terrorists and bandits are orchestrated by some international communities,” Kalu revealed. “Local people also play a part. Their aim is to destabilize the government.”
Government’s Commitment to Security
Despite these allegations, Kalu expressed confidence in the government. He noted that President Tinubu has cancelled engagements. The President’s focus, he said, is solely on addressing the current crisis.
“Tinubu is experiencing sleepless nights,” Kalu affirmed. “Those abducted girls will be recovered. The government is making every possible effort. Our service chiefs and security operatives are fully engaged in tracking them down.”
He acknowledged the severity of the situation. “It is a significant challenge,” he conceded. “However, a primary responsibility of government is to protect lives and property. We will rise to this task.”
