Nigerian singer Terry G has criticized Benue State Governor Hyacinth Alia. The singer, whose real name is Gabriel Oche Amanyi, called out the governor for dismissing claims of religious genocide in Benue State.
Governor Alia recently challenged assertions made by some U.S. officials. These officials advocated designating Nigeria as a “Country of Particular Concern.” This classification relates to allegations of systematic persecution against Christians.
“In my state of Benue, we do not have any religious, ethnic, racial, national, or state genocide,” Governor Alia stated. “We simply do not have that.”
He acknowledged the state faces insecurity. However, he insisted these issues do not meet the definition of genocide.
Terry G, a native of Benue, responded via his Instagram page. He questioned Governor Alia’s stance.
The singer, a Benue native, took to his Instagram to directly challenge the governor. He wrote, “Reverend, why do you lie so much? Why can’t you admit the truth, for once, and apply correction? There is nothing like Christian genocide in Benue. This means you are not hearing all the news that is going on. What kind of governor is that? You just speak rubbish.”
Terry G further added, “We refuse to be quieted. The Christian community in Benue is under attack. No amount of denial can hide that reality.”
