The All Progressives Congress (APC) national leadership has confirmed Senator Otunba Gbenga Daniel’s continued membership in the ruling party. This declaration directly counters the suspension recently imposed by the party’s Ogun State chapter.
In an official letter dated November 17, National Secretary Dr. Surajudeen Ajibola Basiru clarified the National Working Committee’s position. The NWC confirmed it hasn’t reviewed any allegations of anti-party activities against Daniel. Such review is required under the APC constitution.
Barrister Oke, representing the senator, stated the national leadership responded promptly. “The NWC replied before our deadline expired,” Oke affirmed. “They confirmed Senator Daniel remains a bona fide APC member.”
Dr. Basiru’s correspondence emphasized constitutional due process: “Please note the NWC hasn’t deliberated on this matter as mandated by Articles 21.3(d & e). We request allowance for proper investigation. Until then, Senator Daniel remains a party member in good standing.”
Contrasting this position, Ogun APC maintains its suspension remains valid. Party spokesman Femi Nuberu cited alleged anti-party activities during August’s Remo Federal Constituency by-election. Nuberu asserted proper procedures were followed, adding, “The appeal window has lapsed. The decision stands.”
Critics allege political motivations behind the suspension. They suggest it aims to eliminate Daniel from 2027 senatorial contention. Detractors also noted the state chapter announced suspension through media rather than official channels.
Responding to the NWC’s intervention, Oke praised the committee’s fairness. He confirmed Daniel would continue contributing to APC’s progress in Ogun State while awaiting the investigation’s outcome.
