Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to President Bola Tinubu on Information and Strategy, has strongly criticized Kabiru Tanimu Turaki, the newly appointed chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). This follows Turaki’s unexpected call for international intervention during the PDP’s internal crisis.
Turaki made his controversial remarks to journalists after gaining access to the PDP National Secretariat in Abuja. This followed intense clashes between opposing party factions at the Wadata Plaza headquarters. In an emotional appeal, he framed the PDP conflict as a national emergency threatening Nigeria’s democratic foundations.
“What’s at stake extends beyond genocide against Nigerian Christians,” Turaki declared. He specifically called on former US President Donald Trump: “He should save democracy in Nigeria. Democracy faces serious threats. I urge all developed nations to rescue Nigeria and preserve our democracy.”
Onanuga denounced the statement as reckless and unacceptable after viewing video footage. He characterized Turaki’s appeal as “high treason” for inviting foreign interference in Nigeria’s domestic affairs.
“This video documents a Nigerian politician committing high treason,” Onanuga stated. “He called for foreign invasion due to an internal party dispute. We must never forget this.”
The presidential adviser emphasized that internal political disagreements should never justify external intervention. He maintained such actions dangerously undermine Nigeria’s sovereignty and national integrity.
