Akwa Ibom State Governor, Umo Eno, has issued a stern warning to his political appointees. He cautioned those still demonstrating loyalty to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) that drastic action awaits them.
This warning comes swiftly. It follows the recent dismissal of two appointees. They were sacked just 48 hours earlier for disregarding the governor’s directive to attend the recently concluded national convention of the PDP.
Governor Eno Demands Undivided Loyalty
Speaking at the swearing-in ceremony of the new Head of Civil Service (HoCS), Elsie Anietie Peters, Governor Eno reiterated his administration’s position. He declared that it would maintain a firm stance against appointees lacking total loyalty to his leadership.
“You cannot serve two masters at the same time,” the governor emphatically stated. “Those who eat on the table of the King must stand up to be counted. Therefore, anyone unwilling to serve this government fully is free to leave.”
Prince Enobong Uwah, the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), also spoke at the event. He noted that Peters’ swearing-in underscores the administration’s dedication to enhancing professionalism within the civil service. This move also aims to boost productivity across the board.
Elsie Anietie Peters assumed her role as HoCS after the retirement of her predecessor, Elder Effiong Essien. She has been encouraged to view her appointment as a vital call to duty. It is also seen as a crucial step towards revitalising the state’s administrative framework and fostering a smooth reform process.
