A prominent figure within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Samuel Anyanwu, has firmly stated that the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister, Nyesom Wike, has not deserted the party. This assurance comes despite the ongoing internal turmoil plaguing the PDP.
Anyanwu also defended his close ties with Wike. He dismissed criticisms, emphasizing that the Minister was instrumental in revitalizing the PDP during its challenging period.
He recalled, “When Wike, Makinde, Ugwuanyi, Ikpeazu, and Ortom formed the G5, I was not part of their group. Yet, Wike remains a very good friend of mine. It was Wike who brought the PDP back to life when the party was in disarray.”
The former PDP governorship candidate in Imo State further asserted that the main opposition party remains strong. He acknowledged the current crisis but insisted the PDP is far from dead.
Anyanwu expressed strong optimism for the party’s future. He believes the PDP will successfully navigate its current difficulties. He is confident it will emerge stronger and once again become the preferred political choice for many Nigerians.
He added, “The PDP is not dead, and it cannot die. Even a person in an intensive care unit can still make a full recovery.”
Anyanwu Blames Damagum for Party Crisis
Meanwhile, Anyanwu has accused Umar Damagum, the immediate past factional national chairman of the party, of being responsible for the current crisis. Anyanwu made these comments after the party’s recent national convention in Ibadan, Oyo State.
During an interview on ‘Politics Today’ on Channels Television on Monday, Anyanwu addressed questions about the convention. He sharply criticized the event, labeling it a “jamboree” and “illegal.”
According to Anyanwu, Damagum’s incompetence led to significant problems within the party, particularly in Abuja.
