Samuel Anyanwu, the expelled National Secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has blamed Umar Damagum. He accuses Damagum, the immediate past factional national chairman, of causing the party’s ongoing crisis.
This accusation follows Anyanwu’s own expulsion. The party leadership expelled him during a recent convention. Minister Nyesom Wike and former Ekiti State Governor Ayo Fayose were also expelled at that time.
Anyanwu Blames Damagum
Anyanwu spoke on Channels Television’s ‘Politics Today’ programme on Monday. He called the party convention a “jamboree” and “illegal.” Anyanwu stated that Damagum is incompetent. He claimed Damagum caused significant problems in Abuja.
“Damagum is incompetent,” Anyanwu asserted. “He is the cause of the division in the PDP.” He then mocked the convention. “When I heard somebody celebrating their jamboree, saying we must obey the rules of the party, I laughed,” he added.
Makarfi Resigns from PDP BoT
In related news, Senator Ahmed Makarfi has resigned. The former Kaduna State Governor stepped down as Secretary of the PDP Board of Trustees (BoT). He cited adherence to zoning principles. A new National Chairman from his geopolitical zone also influenced his decision.
His resignation followed a significant party event. Former Minister Kabiru Turaki was elected the new PDP National Chairman. This occurred at the party’s national convention in Ibadan last weekend.
Makarfi’s resignation letter was dated November 17, 2025. It was addressed to BoT Chairman Senator Adolphus Wabara. Makarfi explained his decision. It stems from his belief in fairness and balance. These principles are vital for the party’s leadership structure.
