The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has stated it will only collaborate with the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for the 2027 elections if PDP agrees to abandon “business as usual” politics. This condition comes amid PDP’s expressed openness to opposition alliances.
PDP’s Coalition Openness
PDP representatives recently indicated willingness to form broad opposition coalitions. The party confirmed it would consider all options ahead of the pivotal 2027 polls.
ADC’s Non-Negotiable Principles
ADC National Vice Chairman (North), Dr. Mani Ibrahim Abdullahi, clarified the party’s stance. Speaking for National Chairman Ralphs Okey Nwosu, Abdullahi told Daily Trust:
“We’ll partner only with parties subscribing to ADC’s philosophy. Winning power isn’t our sole objective. We prioritize resetting Nigeria’s political culture.”
Abdullahi emphasized that coalitions merely for electoral victory hold no value. True alignment requires shared commitment to reform principles.
“We insist politics must serve the people, not perpetuate old patterns. All opposition should unite against the current threatening government.”
The ADC maintains that PDP must accept this transformative approach. Only then would collaboration be possible for the 2027 elections.
