The All Progressives Congress (APC) has ridiculed the deepening crisis within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). This follows the expulsion of prominent PDP figures including FCT Minister Nyesom Wike and former Ekiti State Governor Ayodele Fayose.
The turmoil escalated during the PDP’s 20th national convention in Ibadan. Conflicting court orders, boycotts, and public dissent marked the event. Two sitting PDP governors openly opposed party decisions.
APC’s Take on PDP Leadership Failures
APC Deputy National Organising Secretary Nze Chidi Duru commented on the situation. He described the PDP crisis as evidence of persistent leadership failures. Duru stated that while APC won’t interfere, it’s willing to educate the opposition.
“Regrettable as it is, if they want education on party management, we’re ready,” Duru told Punch. “We can undertake a crash programme for them on running a political party.”
Expulsion Controversy and Factional Divisions
The APC chieftain mocked the PDP’s factional divisions. He noted only one camp attended the Ibadan convention. Duru highlighted contradictory statements regarding the expulsions.
When asked about welcoming expelled PDP members, Duru dismissed the idea. “We don’t even know who to speak with in the PDP,” he stated. “There’s one camp claiming legitimacy against another.”
Governors’ Opposition and Democratic Balance
Duru referenced Adamawa and Plateau governors distancing themselves from the expulsions. This further demonstrated the PDP’s fractured state. Despite the criticism, he stressed APC doesn’t want PDP’s collapse.
“Democracy thrives on viable opposition,” Duru emphasized. “We wish every opportunity be given for the PDP to exist. Should they require guidance, we’ll send experienced members to help.”
