Ambassador Umar Damagum has been unanimously confirmed as the substantive National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). This landmark decision occurred during the party’s 2025 Elective National Convention at Ibadan’s Lekan Salami Stadium.
Convention Ratification Process
Thousands of delegates gathered at the stadium to endorse the party’s leadership structure. Edo State PDP Chairman Tony Abineri moved the ratification motion. He acted on behalf of 3,000 accredited delegates.
Abineri declared, “I move to ratify Ambassador Umar Damagum as substantive National Chairman. This follows Section 32 of the amended PDP Constitution.” Bauchi State Chairman Samaila Buga seconded the motion. This paved the way for formal adoption.
High-Profile Expulsions Announced
The convention also expelled prominent party members. These include FCT Minister Nyesom Wike and former Ekiti Governor Ayodele Fayose. Former National Secretary Samuel Anyanwu was also expelled.
A party elder identified as George emphasized restoring discipline. He stressed the need for unity within PDP ranks. The expulsions took immediate effect.
Additional Convention Decisions
The PDP dissolved executive committees in five states. Affected states include Imo, Abia, and Enugu. Akwa Ibom and Rivers State excos were also sacked.
Amid these changes, prominent member Wabara reassured members. He affirmed, “PDP will not die” despite the organizational restructuring.
